Joanna (who hasn’t signed up for 5and5 yet) writes me today: “I admit, your ‘do not spend’ program is wise, but I do not know if it will create a future people want to work toward.”

Glad to clarify: it’s not a “do not spend” program. It’s “put aside a specific small amount for every dollar you take in – when you take it in – for 90 days without fail. 5% into a Wealth account for yourself, and 5% for a Give account to pass on to someone or something after the 90 days – where you expect no quid pro quo. “

RE “I do not know if it will create a future people want to work toward” – that will depend on the person. It’s fun for me to fixate on the question: To whom shall I give my Give money? Especially since I’ve never done this before.

I’d like the amount to get really big, but even a few dollars makes me feel special. I don’t know why. I didn’t realize how much I’d like being a philanthropist.

On the other hand, it’s also fun to do things to grow your money and create wealth way beyond your Wealth and Give Accounts. All the more to put into those accounts too.

More on that in another post.

I was on the phone with my customer service gal Gwen today, and we had no sooner taken care of whatever it was, and she asks me that question.

She’s signed up for the 5 and 5 too, and wanted to know what I was going to do with MY Give account money.

I’ve been thinking about it. She’s been thinking about it too. So have others based on the comments here. I’m waiting until the 90 days is up to give it away though. Bigger is more fun. AND I’m keeping some in that Give account so I can go another 90 days if I love it this go-round.

This is so, like WOW! Here are a group of people, most of whose #1 worry is probably money, talking about who they’re going to give their money to (!!)

It sends the brain an entirely new message. A calmness and feeling of control rules. No matter what the actual money situation is.

Weird. Cool.

Your experience?

Without even doing it, some folks say just deciding has made them happier. Happy people are a good thing. I feel the same way. No matter how much money you have coming in (think the US Gov) if most of what comes in goes to pay “the bills” you’re still a slave. I very much enjoy my work, as I know many of you do. But I’d like not to HAVE to do it, you know? Sometimes, that is.

What’s your story?
